WOTD: Poem

Seven years ago today my life changed.

Forever.

Seven years ago today I held you in my arms and stared.

In complete and total wonder.

Seven years ago today I wondered how I would do this thing called parenting.

Then one day you sat up.

And then you crawled.

You walked and you talked.

Then one day you said Mama which quickly turned to Mommy.

And one day when I told you I was simply amazed at the number of times you could call me "Mommy" in one day, you called me "Lara".

You counted and cried.

Laughed and slept.

Joked and sang.

Ran and kicked.

Wrote and read.

And all those skills that you build up and sock away for the keeping continue to astound me.

It's all happening so fast.

So very fast.

And sometimes

I want to go back to that day seven years ago,

and hold you in my arms.

But then I wouldn't see you as you are now,

growing and changing into the extraordinary person

You are destined to become.

All my love sweet boy, on this, your seventh birthday.

--Mommy

  1. You just had to bring tears to my eyes today or all days, didn't you?
